Massage is often thought of as a way to relax and release the tension in the muscles, but it does so much more. It can also relieve pain and enhance flexibility and range of motion. With a variety of techniques and styles an experienced massage therapist can restore balance to the whole body. For example, swedish massage increases circulation and breaks down knots (lactic acid) in the muscles; lymphatic massage relieves inflammation and drains those toxins; trigger point therapy allows muscle spasms to melt under gentle increasing pressure; neuromuscular therapy works with the muscles and nervous system to relieve specific tension and pain in the muscle fibers caused by an overactive nervous system, repetitive actions, or injuries; deep tissue massage addresses all levels and layers of muscles to break down knots and spasms deep within; craniosacral therapy works with the cranium, spinal column, and connective tissue (fascia) to relieve migraine headaches, TMJ dysfunction, and other constrictions in the body; sports massage can prepare a body for an athletic event as well as restore it to optimal functioning following the event; reflexology can help with plantar fasciitis as well as support internal organs; prenatal massage relieves tension and flushes inflamed legs for the expectant mother. Massages at Austin BodyWorker

Whether this is your first or one-hundredth massage, we feel it is important to know that we take you and your pain seriously. When you come into our office you will be asked to fill out a brief health history, which you and your therapist will discuss. This will help us get a better picture of your overall health and the issues you are having.

We want you to feel free to discuss your questions and concerns openly without fear of asking a ‘silly’ or ‘stupid’ question—there is no such thing in our business. Your therapist will discuss the treatment they think will suit you best. One size does not fit all. Personalization is key.

Massage Therapy is new to me. How does it work?

After your initial consultation, your therapist will then step out of the treatment room and allow you sufficient time to get undressed to your comfort level and to get on the massage table.

You will be modestly draped throughout your treatment. Please talk or don’t talk at your discretion. Both are very okay. Feel free to ask questions, or give the therapist feedback. This is your massage and your comfort is important to us. You can even bring your own music and we’ll play it. Really.

When the treatment is over, the therapist will end the session and step out for you to get dressed. Many of our therapists like to end the session by coming back into the treatment room when you are ready and suggesting stretches, strengthening exercises, and other modifications to your activities.

Can I choose my massage therapist?

Each therapist on staff is nationally-certified and at the top of their field.

Therapists with The Austin Bodyworker are certified by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). We are also professional members of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), a professional organization serving more than 37,000 members who demonstrate a certain level of skill and expertise through testing and education.

With the increased demand on the field of massage therapy to integrate with modern medicine, it has become crucial that we bodywork professionals seek higher education in order to maintain credibility in the field of healthcare. We are constantly striving to push the boundaries of our knowledge in our field. This dedication to education is vital to our “staying in the game,” and doing all we can for the clients who count on us to help them.

Usually clients get paired with a therapist based on schedule, and convenience. Some stick with the same therapist over time, and some clients work with whomever is available. It’s really your preference. Regardless, the quality is always the same — that’s one of the things we’re known for, and take good pride it.
